Chemainus Elementary Site
The Old Chemainus Elementary School has been vacant and unused for many years. The Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization Plan, adopted in 2011, identifies this 3.8-acre piece of property that is owned by the Municipality as a key project for revitalizing the town (page 19).
After lengthy public engagement and deliberation, Council adopted on September 20, 2017, a change in zoning for the old Chemainus Elementary School property. The municipality has begun the subdivision process to create the lot layout approved by Council. The new layout, as shown below, will create 10 lots on Severne Street, a residential multi-family lot (the future of which is not yet determined), and a large community park area:
