About the project

North Cowichan is constructing a 44-space child care centre on a municipally owned property on Berridge Street in Crofton. Funding for the $5.44 million facility is provided by the Ministry of Education and Child Care through a grant to North Cowichan.

Preliminary open house

In July 2022 staff hosted an open house at the site, as an opportunity for nearby residents to learn more and ask questions. 

Traffic study

On October 14, 2025, staff presented a traffic impact study to council, following concerns about congestion by nearby residents. The study found no concerns regarding traffic or congestion.

What you need to know

Construction of the child care centre will begin in 2026, following the tendering in fall 2025. 

There will be no construction impacts to area residents.
