Woodstove Changeout Program

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This offer is being coordinated by the District of North Cowichan for both City of Duncan and North Cowichan residents. There are 100 rebates available for North Cowichan residents and 25 rebates available for City of Duncan residents, on a first come, first served basis. The program allows you to exchange your old, uncertified wood stove (pre-1994) for a new, EPA emission certified wood, pellet, or gas heating appliance then dispose of your old stove, at the North Cowichan Operations Yard, to receive a rebate. New stoves reduce smoke by 70% and use 1/3 less cord wood. Most insurance companies require notification when you make changes to your wood heating system. To receive the rebate we require that the work is completed or inspected by a Wood Energy Technical Training (WETT) certified technician and the documentation is included with the rebate application. The stove and chimney must meet current WETT and CSA standards. Only one wood stove rebate per residence will be granted. The value of the rebate will not exceed the value of the new stove. It is up to the buyer to fully complete the application to qualify for the rebate. A tracking number will be provided to secure the rebate by calling North Cowichan at 250-746-3130. To qualify for the rebate the following three steps must be completed: STEP 2: Retailer Discount and Installation We require a copy of the purchase receipt (with the $50 discount) and a copy of the WETT-certified technician’s installation or inspection report of the stove and chimney assembly. | STEP 3: Disposal of Old Stove For safety and security reasons, you must make an appointment to drop off your old woodstove. Call our office at 250-746-3130 to make an appointment to drop off your old woodstove at the North Cowichan Operations Yard on Sprott Road. Stoves dropped off without an appointment will not receive a rebate. Any ash or brick liners must be removed prior to bringing the old stove to our Operations Yard and must be disposed of appropriately. Once North Cowichan has received your old stove and a copy of the purchase receipt (with the $50 discount), and a copy of the WETT-certified technician’s installation or inspection report of the stove and chimney, we will mail the remaining $300 or $350 to you.
