The Artist
Sylvia is well known BC artist who has studied at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design and the Hornsey School of Art in London. Her art work is varied, ranging from commercial art to illustrations. She is versed in the fine art of copper plate etching, woodcuts and painting. Over the years Sylvia's style has changed from primarily black and white to vibrant expressionistic  and energetic works of colour. Sylvia has exhibited her art throughout North America and her work appears in art collections in Canada, U.S., Germany, Japan, and Costa Rica.

The Art
This is Sylvia's third mural and the 20th Anniversary Mural for Chemainus. It portrarys the first sawmill in Chemainus built in 1862, a key aspect of the history of Chemainus. The mural is located in Waterwheel Park against a backdrop of mature conifer trees. To make the mural stand out in an otherwise dark and shady location, Sylvia has painted the sawmill in bright colours. On sunny days, the light changes quickly across the mural and add interest to the work.
