Environment

The Municipality of North Cowichan is located on the southeast coast of Vancouver Island.  It encomasses 20,430 hectares of lowland coastaland mountainous terrain within the Coastal Douglas Fir Biogeoclimatic zone. Much of the land is dedicated to forestry and agricultural activities.

Three forested areas have been protected in ecological reserves on:

  • Mt. Prevost
  • Mt. Tzouhalem
  • Maple Mountain.

Our coast line and estuaries provide habitat for diverse plant and animal species. North Cowichan is well-known for its natural beauty and we are passionate about protecting and preserving our environmental ecosystems.
