Property taxes are mailed to property owners in late May, and taxes are due in early July.
Utilities include sewer, water, and curbside collection services. Utilities (curbside, water, and sewer service) are billed separately three times per year.

How to pay your property tax

Pay your property taxes using online or telephone banking. Alternatively, you can pay by cheque by mail, in person or in the drop-box at the main entrance to Municipal Hall

2024 property tax payments are due July 2, 2024

Avoid a 10% penalty by paying your taxes by July 2, 2024.

Although revenues are generated from additional sources, the primary source of revenue for municipalities comes from property taxes.

Property taxes

North Cowichan property tax notices are mailed out the last week of May every year. If you have not received your tax notice by the second week of June, please contact the Financial Services department. Property taxes are due on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, by 4:30pm. Make your property tax payment by the close of business on July 2, 2024, to avoid a 10% penalty on any unpaid current taxes, including unclaimed homeowner grants.

Properties whose taxes have not been paid for 3 years are subject to the Tax Sale.

Home Owner Grants

The Home Owner Grant Program is now administered by the province. Municipalities no longer accept retroactive or current year Home Owner Grant applications.

Speculation and Vacancy Tax

The speculation and vacancy tax is an annual tax based on how owners use residential properties in areas in B.C. affected most by the current housing shortage crisis. In 2024 the tax has been expanded to include North Cowichan.

Property Tax Deferment Program

The Property Tax Deferment program is administered by the province. Visit www.gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment or call 1-888-355-2700 for information and eligibility.

MyMuni

Access all of your North Cowichan accounts online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at MyMuni. View tax account information, water consumption, utility history, dog licences, and business licences. All you need is a copy of your bill for the account number you want to register and create a profile to register your accounts.
