Emergency Management Cowichan (EMC) provides the oversight and delivery of emergency preparedness planning, incident response, and recovery support within the Cowichan Valley Regional District, including North Cowichan. Formally established in 2023, EMC provides a strengthened, centralized approach to emergency preparedness, response and recovery.

Fire Protection

The North Cowichan Fire Department is a trained and dedicated team of on-call paid firefighters with four fire halls: Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay and South End.

Flooding

North Cowichan can experience flooding events, in particular during the spring and during atmospheric river (or 'pineapple express') rain events. Low-lying areas, areas adjacent to creeks, streams, and rivers, and river floodplains can all experience flooding that can impact roads, homes, and businesses. During and after a significant flood event, North Cowichan will provide up-to-date information on impacts and resources available.
