Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Municipal Hall is currently closed to the public. We encourage residents to claim their Home Owner Grant online, and to pay property taxes using online or phone banking. Alternatively, you can mail us a cheque (details below). Cheques can also be securely dropped off, in person, in the drop-box at the main entrance to Municipal Hall. At this time, we are working towards reopening Municipal Hall and welcoming residents back to do business with us in-person. Please call 250.746.3100 or check out our website www.northcowichan.ca/COVID19 for the most up to date information.
2020 Property Tax payments are due Sept 30, 2020.
Although revenues are generated from additional sources, the primary source of revenue for municipalities comes from property taxes.
Property Tax Notices
North Cowichan property tax notices are mailed out the last week of May every year. If you have not received your tax notice by the second week of June, please contact a tax clerk in the Financial Services department. Property taxes are due on Wednesday, Sept 30, 2020. Make your property tax payment by the close of business on the tax due date to avoid a 10% penalty on any unpaid current taxes, including unclaimed home owner grants. North Cowichan offers a Pre-Payment Plan [PDF - 95 KB] for property owners to pre-pay their next years' property taxes (call for details.) Properties whose taxes have not been paid for 3 years are subject to the Tax Sale.
Visit our Payment Location page for payment options.
The Property Tax Deferment Program has changed!
Property Tax Deferment forms are no longer accepted by North Cowichan. The program is now completely administered by the Province, please visit www.gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment or call 1.888.355.2700 for info.
Property Tax Deferment is a low-interest provincial loan program that assists qualified homeowners in paying the annual property taxes on their homes. You may be eligible to defer your property taxes if you are 55 years of age or over; a person with disabilities and you live in your home; or if you are a qualifying homeowner who is financially supporting a dependent child under the age of 18.
You can securely access all of your North Cowichan accounts online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at www.northcowichan.ca/MyMuni. View tax account information, water consumption, utilities history, dog licences, and business licences. All you need is a copy of your bill for the account number you want to register and then create a profile to register your accounts.
The Municipality of North Cowichan provides refuse collection, water and sewer to its residents. Visit Utilities and Residential Services to find out more information.
