North Cowichan Fire Department
Fire protection in North Cowichan is provided by a trained and dedicated team of paid-on-call firefighters that respond to more than 1,250 calls a year. There are four fire halls throughout North Cowichan: Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, and South End. Each hall has its own Station Chief, Station Deputy Chief, Training Captains, Fire Captains and regular firefighters, all of whom are members of the North Cowichan Fire Department.
The department has fire service agreements with Quw’utsun First Nation, which includes the Cowichan Tribes, the Halalt First Nation, the Lyackson First Nation, the Penelakut Tribe, and the Stz'uminus First Nation. It has mutual aid agreements with the Cowichan Valley Regional District, City of Duncan, Town of Ladysmith, and the BC Wildfire Service, regularly responding to calls in support of large events or wildfires.

North Cowichan's four fire halls are entirely staffed by trainied and dedicated paid on-call firefigthters. You can join our team if you are at least 19 years of age, a resident of North Cowichan, and have a Class 5 non-restricted driver's licence.
