What is the Community Land Trust?
The Community Land Trust Foundation of BC is a non-profit society that develops land and manages housing for the co-operative and non-profit housing sector and community partners whose purpose is to foster the creation of affordable housing.
The Community Land Trust's mission is to:
- Acquire, create and preserve affordable housing for future generations.
- Source community, government and private partners who share in our mission.
- Goal to make land permanently available for housing across the housing continuum.
North Cowichan has partnered with the Community Land Trust to explore affordable housing projects on two Municipally owned properties - 3191 Sherman Road and 9800 Willow Street. If these projects move forward, North Cowichan's role will be to provide a long-term least of the properties to the Community Land Trust. The Community Land Trust's role will be to finance, build, and operate the housing projects over many years. This partnership model is illustrated below.
