Boys Road Ultraviolet (UV) Water Treatment Plant
October 18, 2012The Municipality of North Cowichan has recently awarded a contract to Brunnell Construction Ltd. To construct a UV water treatment plant at the Boys Road Well Water Supply Complex.
Presently, well water is supplied to the South End (the area south of Herd Road, Highway 18, and the Bell McKinnon Road reservoir at Wedgewood Drive) from four wells on Boys Road adjacent to the Cowichan River. The well water is not disinfected except twice per year when it is chlorinated while system flushing is undertaken.
The new UV Treatment Plant will provide continuous disinfection of the well water supply. The Vancouver Island Health Authority has issued a permit for the construction of the new UV plant and supports the Municipalitys efforts to provide UV protection for its 18,000 customers serviced by the South End Water System.
