Cowichan Aquatic Centre Two Tier Fees Removed for South Cowichan Residents
December 28, 2012The Municipality of North Cowichan is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached to end the two tier fee structure at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre for residents in Cowichan Valley District Electoral Areas A Mill Bay/Malahat, B Shawnigan Lake, C Cobble Hill and D Cowichan Bay. Residents from all four areas will no longer be required to pay the higher two tier fee to use the pool.
Im very pleased to see this issued resolved for the South Cowichan area, said Mayor Jon Lefebure of North Cowichan. The Cowichan Aquatic Centre is an excellent facility and we want to make it accessible to all members of the community. This is an exciting day and I appreciate the efforts made by the South Cowichan Electoral Area Directors in making this work.
The two tier fee structure will remain in place for the non-contributing areas of Electoral Area E Cowichan Station/Glenora/Sahtlam, Area F Cowichan Lake South/Skutz Falls, Area I Youbou and the Town of Lake Cowichan. The original partners in the Cowichan Aquatic Centre include Cowichan Tribes, City of Duncan and the Municipality of North Cowichan. For these remaining areas, Mayor Lefebure offered to sit down and work out an agreement. I would like to see everyone in the Cowichan Valley Regional District accessing this facility and welcome the opportunity to continue discussing funding options with these Area Directors to eliminate the two-tier structure at the Aquatic Centre permanently.
