Google Takes a Hikein North Cowichan!

A team from Google Maps has just arrived in North Cowichan to begin collecting images of our extensive parks and trails network. The team will collect images by pedaling a tricycle along our most frequently-used trails. The tricycle is 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet, and weighs almost 400 pounds. Once completed, the images can be viewed within Googles street view in conjunction with the previously-collected road imagery.

We are very excited to have the Google team here to map our trails, stated Ernie Mansueti, Director of Parks & Recreation. Having this detailed street view information accessible online will be a great asset for our residents and will likely encourage more visitors to the Cowichan Valley.

It is expected that the new mapping information will be available by the end of the year.
