Consultation Begins on a Plan for Crofton

The Municipality of North Cowichan, in collaboration with the local community, has started work on preparing a Community Plan to assist in setting a future blueprint for Crofton.
The plan will help flesh out the strategic policies identified in the Official Community Plan (OCP) and North Cowichan's recently-adopted award-winning Climate Action and Energy Plan.  The plan will also establish a vision, goals, objectives and implementation plan for this area for the next 30 years, and help to provide certainty for everyone involved including community residents, business owners, landowners and developers.
An Advisory Working Group comprised of a cross-section of the Crofton community is providing input at key stages of the process, including shortlisting of the consulting team which will prepare the plan. The community-based Advisory Working Group, the Municipality of North Cowichan and the recently-appointed consulting team would like to hear what residents, visitors, business owners, landowners, and other stakeholders have to say about the future of Crofton.
To begin the consultation process two sounding boards will be placed at key locations in Crofton where residents and visitors can leave comments and suggestions on how you would like your community to be.
An introductory Open House will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Crofton Community Centre. A presentation on the background to the planning process and baseline work will be held at 7 p.m.
"Crofton has a strong sense of community and we need to build on this strength to help create a future vision for Crofton," stated Mayor Jon Lefebure. "We invite input from the community including young and old - to continue to contribute to their neighbourhood and capitalize on its beautiful setting, making it a great place for those of all ages to live, work and play," he added.
