Stage 2 water restrictions are now in effect for all North Cowichan water systems
Annual Maintenance Shutdown at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre Begins August 15
August 14, 2015
Beginning Saturday, August 15, the pool side of the Cowichan Aquatic Centre will be closed to the public for the annual maintenance shutdown. There are approximately half a million visits to the Aquatic Centre each year. The shutdown is required in order to perform safety inspections, maintenance, repairs and upgrades on an as-needed basis and includes the following:
deep cleaning of the swirl pool and wave pool basin;
evaluation of the competitive pool to determine whether deep cleaning is necessary;
repairing grout, tiles, expansion joints and flooring, as needed;
servicing of pumps, filters and ultra-violet (UV) systems which maintain water quality;
repainting surfaces, as needed; and
disinfection and degreasing of pool decks, change rooms, washrooms, sauna, and steam room.
As at most other aquatic facilities, the yearly maintenance shutdown is scheduled to coincide with the lowest usage period and is required to maintain a clean and hygienic pool.
