Wildfire Incident

Released at 5:10 p.m. on July 20, 2015 - At about 3:30 p.m. today North Cowichan, Duncan, Ladysmith, and Sahtlam firefighters, along with assistance from the Ministry of Forests, were called to fight a wildfire along the Cowichan Valley Highway. The cause of the fire was reported to be a blown hydro transformer near the Duncan Meadows Golf Course. Through the quick response of firefighters the fire was brought under control by approximately 5 p.m. and crews continue to remain onsite to mop up hot spots.

Highway traffic has been temporarily re-routed along Somenos and Drinkwater Roads until further notice.

No residents were evacuated and no reports of injuries have been received.
