Contract Awarded for Crofton Skate Park Construction

A new skate park is coming soon to Crofton! The Municipality of North Cowichan is pleased to announce that Vancouver Island's Radius Construction has been selected to construct a new community skate park that will be located on a 1.2-acre Municipally-owned property at 1537 Chaplin Street. It will be approximately 4,800 square feet in size and will accommodate different skill levels, boarders, bikes and scooters. Park construction is scheduled for completion in January 2017.

"North Cowichan is excited to break ground on the long-awaited Crofton skate park," says Mayor Jon Lefebure. "The park will provide a much-needed place where Crofton kids and families can get outside and stay local."

Based on Vancouver Island, Radius Construction has completed many successful construction projects throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. Radius Construction provided the lowest tender of the three proposal responders, coming in at $183,500. The Municipality had budgeted $200,000 for park design and construction costs, which is supplemented by $10,000 in community donations.

The skate park was designed by van der Zalm and Associates, a leader in skate park design in B.C. This design was informed by input from future Crofton skate park users on what they want to see at their skate park. The design plans for the park can be viewed here.
