Council Matters for February 3, 2016
February 10, 2016
The Regular Council meeting of February 3, 2016, took about 3 hours. The meeting began with two delegations. First up was the Chemainus Business Improvement Association requesting additional funding for the Chemainus Flower and Hanging Basket Program. Staff will bring back a report on the request at the next Regular Council meeting scheduled for February 17, 2016.
Crofton Quay Developments Inc. was next with an interesting update on a plan for a phased re-development of the Twin Gables Motel site in Crofton.
A proposed neighbourhood commercial development at Berkey's Corner was again on the agenda. There was a vigorous discussion of a restrictive covenant to limit uses, especially drive throughs. In the end, Council did not include drive throughs as a prohibited use and the proposal will head to a Public Hearing. Details on the date and time of the public hearing will be published on our website. Additionally, a public information session will be hosted in the community by the proponent, and we will also publish details about that meeting.
Rental fees for using the new Sherman Road synthetic turf field were up for discussion and resulted in staff being asked to bring back a report with more options at the next Council meeting scheduled for February 17, 2016.
Council is interested in hearing from the community. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org on these or any other matters. Thank you for reading Council Matters. Please consider signing up for other updates on what is happening in the Municipality by visiting: www.northcowichan.ca/subscribe.
