North Cowichan Announces New eALERT Service

(August 31, 2016, North Cowichan, BC) Being notified of local emergencies and critical incidents occurring in North Cowichan is now even easier with the Municipalitys newly upgraded eALERT service. This new service, delivered by ReCollect, is integrated into the Municipalitys website and online registration is now available.

Nine years ago the Municipality implemented an emergency notification service for residents and businesses to be notified of local emergencies by phone or by email. This service has been instrumental in providing our citizens with critical information. Moving forward, the new eALERT service will enable staff to issue notifications more efficiently through email and by phone, and also introduces text (SMS) messaging as another way to receive notifications. Another key improvement is the ability to subscribe to receive notifications even if youre not a resident of North Cowichan.

Our current eALERT service filled a vital need in helping us update our residents and businesses of local emergenciessuch as notification of boil water advisories, noted Mayor Jon Lefebure. He continues, We believe the updated service will help us to deliver notifications more efficiently, and to a broader audience, over a shorter period of time.

ReCollect currently supplies the Municipalitys online curbside collection reminder and Waste Wizard look-up service. Expanding on the capabilities of the existing service proved to be a cost-effective approach to improving the Municipalitys eALERT service and to streamlining internal processes.

Online registration is now available by visiting the Municipalitys website at www.northcowichan.ca/eALERT. Those who were registered under the old system must re-register under the new eALERT program in order to receive future notifications.
