Stage 2 water restrictions are now in effect for all North Cowichan water systems
Beverly Street Road Work Underway
March 26, 2018
(North Cowichan, BC) Road work on Beverly Street starts again today.
Improvements to Beverly Street began in June 2017 with installation of new, sub-surface water mains. Once the water mains were installed, engineered gravel fill was placed around the mains and left to settle over the winter. The work commencing now is the final phase of this important infrastructure improvement project.
Beverly Street will remain open, with some rerouting, through April, May, and June, to allow for the following upgrades:
- Road widening, including installation of cycling lanes on both sides
- New curb
- New roundabout
- Asphalt overlay
A detour around the new roundabout will be in place for the duration of the project and access to through traffic and businesses will remain open with minimal disruption. A map of the detour is shown below. Traffic impacts will be minimized during evenings and weekends wherever possible.
North Cowichan thanks motorists for their patience while this work is completed.
This stretch of Beverly Street was identified in the 2015 award-winning University Village Local Area Plan (UVLAP) as a location for gateway enhancement. The UVLAP, a collaboration between North Cowichan and the City of Duncan, also identifies this area as a priority for revitalization and redevelopment. This road work project is a significant first step in realizing many of the desired outcomes for this important part of North Cowichan.
