Heavy Smoke from Nanaimo Lakes Area Wildfire

The smoke across North Cowichan on August 6 comes from a wildfire in the Nanaimo Lakes area.

On the morning of August 6, the BC Wildfire Service describes this fire as uncontained. There is no fire threat to North Cowichan residents at this time; however, in order to minimize health affects from smoke inhalation, BC Wildfire  Service suggests avoiding exertion, keeping hydrated, and staying indoors if you have a chronic health condition. Anyone who sees smoke they feel is from an unreported wildfire is asked to call BC Wildfire service 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 from a cell phone.
