North Cowichan’s Sandy McPherson Recognized for Community Achievement

(North Cowichan, BC) – In a ceremony held last month at Government House in Victoria, North Cowichan resident Sandy McPherson was presented with a BC Achievement Community Award. The nomination was put forward by North Cowichan’s Mayor and Council, and at today’s Council meeting she was recognized by those who nominated her.

Ms. McPherson has been a dedicated member of North Cowichan’s Environmental Advisory Committee since 2012, and she has been an important community advocate for implementing North Cowichan’s Climate Action and Energy Plan. She also recently volunteered to sit on a Community Advisory Committee for the Cowichan Valley Regional District’s Solid Waste Management Plan. This, in addition to many other community initiatives with many other organizations in the Cowichan Valley and beyond.

“The nomination for this award by North Cowichan Council, supported by others in our community, is truly an honour,” says award recipient, Sandy McPherson. “To me it recognizes the importance of establishing and nurturing genuine, working relationships toward building resilience in our whole community.”

“Council is delighted that Sandy was selected to receive this award,” says Mayor Al Siebring. “Sandy was one of 25 people to receive the award this year, out of 150 nominations. Today, we celebrate Sandy and the volunteers like her who make our community what it is.”

The BC Achievement Foundation is an independent foundation established and endowed by the province of BC to celebrate excellence in the arts, humanities, enterprise, and community service.
