Cowichan Aquatic Centre Ready to Welcome Patrons Back

(North Cowichan, BC) – The Cowichan Aquatic Centre will be ready to safely welcome patrons back on Tuesday, October 13. While total service resumption will happen in phases, patrons can now register for a select offering of programs and services. Pre-registration will be essential for recreating at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre. The Aquatic Centre has remained closed since March 16, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the closure, regular maintenance and the scheduled expansion and renovation to this facility were able to proceed. Renovations will be largely completed upon re-opening, and the facility will boast newly upgraded features like larger competitive swim and fitness areas and more. “I want to commend staff for finding a way for renovations to proceed during the unfortunate closure due to COVID-19. This meant less impact on patrons in the long run. I am so glad that our facility can re-open to the community safely and in an improved state,” said Mayor Al Siebring. 

To protect the health and safety of patrons and staff, all guidelines put forward by the Provincial Health Officer, senior levels of government, and the COVID-19 Restoration of Programs & Services Plan for the Cowichan Aquatic Centre will be observed. “While recreation might look a little different, we are ecstatic to be opening our doors again and welcoming folks back,” said Mayor Al Siebring. “People won’t be able to just drop in and take a class or use the fitness room like they used to, but these changes and safety precautions will be paramount for us to keep our staff and community members safe.”
