(North Cowichan, BC) - The COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly changing, and in this time of uncertainty, North Cowichan is taking further measures to protect members of the public and staff as best as possible. As a result, effective 4:30 pm March 17, 2020, Municipal Hall and the Municipal Operations Facility (located at 7030 Trans-Canada Highway) will be indefinitely closed to the public. While we are physically closed, North Cowichan remains open for business. Please call our general information phone line 250.746.3100, send us an email info@northcowichan.ca, or visit www.northcowichan.ca/COVID19 to find out how you can continue doing business with us and how staff can support you during this unique and challenging situation.
Members of the public will still be able to attend our Regular Council Meeting, scheduled for 1:30 pm Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Those who choose to attend will be asked to adhere to social distancing practices in Council Chambers. The meeting will be live-streamed, we strongly encourage members of the public to watch online and participate remotely. Questions can be emailed to the Corporate Officer in advance of the meeting to be read out. More information on this process can be found on our website.
As this situation evolves, we will remain focused on our ability to provide critical services and continue to provide updates. Please visit our website for the most up to date information on how North Cowichan is taking steps to address COVID-19. “Many local governments across Vancouver Island have elected to close their facilities and City Halls to the public, and we have made the challenging decision to follow suit because we feel this is the right thing to do and the best way to protect our staff and our residents,” said Mayor Al Siebring.
North Cowichan urges residents to continue practicing social distancing and to remain at home. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, or have been exposed to the virus, please call 1-888-COVID19 or text 1-888-268-4319.
