North Cowichan Council Recruits Members for Reinstated Environmental Advisory Committee
December 2, 2020
(North Cowichan, BC) North Cowichan is reinstating its Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) of Council and is actively recruiting up to nine volunteers to serve on the Committee. If you have demonstrated experience and interest or expertise in environmental matters affecting North Cowichan, we want to see your application!
In January 2021, Council will review applications and appoint successful candidates to the Committee. The EAC will meet every other month, commencing early in 2021. They will provide valuable advice on corporate planning to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within our community; other environmental matters, such as natural areas, watershed protection, air quality, climate adaptation; and any emerging issues referred by Council.
“I am looking forward to getting the Environmental Advisory Committee back up and running again, and I know all of Council is, too. The previous Committee provided a very effective way for Council to gather advice and input from the community on a wide variety of environmental topics,” said Councillor Kate Marsh, who was appointed Chair of the Committee.
“Reinstating an environmentally focused committee reflects the sense of urgency to tackle the climate emergency – which Council acknowledged in 2019. Council is working to apply an environmental lens on all land use and long-range strategic planning, especially the Official Community Plan Update. I think the EAC will bring a fresh perspective to the table and help Council consider the environment in all we do,” Marsh concluded.
