Burning bans rescinded and campfire ban lifted
September 16, 2021
Per section 10(2) of the Fire Protection Bylaw, the present ban on recreational (campfires) and Category 2 & 3 fires will be rescinded for the Municipality of North Cowichan, effective at noon on September 16, 2021.
Please refer to section 11 & 12 of the Fire Protection Bylaw and North Cowichan’s Current Open Burning Requirements for specific restrictions that could be in effect for your area.
Category 2 open fire: As defined in the Wildfire Regulation (s.1); an open fire, other than a campfire, that burns
- material in one pile not exceeding 2m in height and 3m in width,
- material concurrently in 2 piles each not exceeding 2m in height and 3m in width, or
- stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 ha
Category 3 open fire - As defined in the Wildfire Regulation (s.1); an open fire that burns
- material concurrently in 3 or more piles each not exceeding 2m in height and 3m in width,
- material in one or more piles each exceeding 2m in height or 3m in width,
- one or more windrows, or
- stubble or grass over an area exceeding 0.2 ha
