North Cowichan Seeks Community Input for New Master Transportation Plan
April 6, 2021
(North Cowichan, BC) – North Cowichan is updating its Master Transportation Plan that will provide long-term direction and guide all decisions related to the Municipality’s transportation network over the next 30 years. An updated Plan will improve transportation options across the Municipality’s communities and be representative of people of all ages and abilities.
During the three phases of the project, taking place between now and the end of the year, residents will have multiple opportunities to weigh in and provide feedback on current and existing conditions of North Cowichan’s transportation network, express their values and priorities related to transportation, and eventually be able to review and comment on the draft plan.
“If you walk, drive, cycle, or roll – we want to hear from you!” shares Mayor Al Siebring. “You might not think about it during your everyday, but how you move from your home to your work to your activities and errands, are all impacted by the Municipality’s transportation network. Our goal with this update is to use your feedback to build a plan that reflects your priorities and vision for moving around North Cowichan in the future.”
Community engagement is kicking off with a public survey, open to all residents now until April 22, 2021. An additional Household Travel Survey, to develop a transportation model that reflects resident travel patterns, is taking place during this same time to select randomly chosen households via mail or telephone. Full project details and the public survey are available at www.northcowichan.ca/MTP.
