North Cowichan Seeking Board of Variance Members
North Cowichan invites applications from interested residents wishing to serve on North Cowichan’s Board of Variance.
The Board of Variance is an independent body that makes decisions on applications for minor development variances where compliance with regulations would cause undue hardship. To learn more about North Cowichan’s Board of Variance follow this link.
The five member volunteer Board generally meets bi-monthly during regular business hours for approximately one hour. In addition to this time commitment, members are required to read relevant background material, and often undertake site inspections, prior to the meeting. All meetings are open to the public and involve the weighing of information and evidence to determine if variances are to be approved or declined. Council will be appointing five members for a 3 year term, effective March 16, 2022.
Who should volunteer? Knowledge or experience related to land use planning, building or engineering would be beneficial and typical candidates are retired building contractors, land surveyors, realtors, architects and civil engineers. Individuals with other experience are also welcome to apply.
