North Cowichan Votes: #VoteLocal this October
September 27, 2022
(North Cowichan, BC) – This October, North Cowichan residents will head to the polls to elect one Mayor and six Councillors to govern the Municipality of North Cowichan for the next four years. General voting day is Saturday, October 15 and two advance voting days will take place on Wednesday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 11.
“During the last two elections, only about 8,000 people voted in North Cowichan,” says Mayor Al Siebring. “This is just over a 30 per cent voter turnout. When outcomes are sometimes decided by only a handful of votes, it’s incredibly important to learn about the candidates and get out to vote for the people who will be making important local decisions for the next four years.”
North Cowichan residents can vote at any of the following six voting locations on October 15 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.:
- Municipal Hall, 7030 Trans-Canada Highway
- École Mount Prevost, 6177 Somenos Road, Duncan
- Quamichan Middle School, 2515 Beverly Street, Duncan
- Maple Bay Elementary, 1500 Donnay Drive, Duncan
- Crofton Elementary School, 8017 York Avenue, Crofton
- Chemainus Seniors Centre, 9824 Willow Street, Chemainus
Advance voting on October 5 and October 11 is only available at Municipal Hall (8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.). In addition to voting in person, and new this year, residents can also apply to vote by mail ballot. Eligible voters include residents of North Cowichan and non-resident property owners aged 18 and over. Eligible voters who are not on North Cowichan’s register of electors can register when they go to vote at any of the polling locations.
