Stage 3 water restrictions are in effect for all North Cowichan water systems. Sprinkling is not permitted at this time.
Campfire Ban
June 7, 2023
In addition to the open burning ban (category 2 and 3 fires) imposed on May 18, 2023, and as per the Fire Protection Bylaw, Bylaw NO. 3841, campfires/recreational fires will be prohibited effective 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 for the entire Municipality of North Cowichan. This ban includes all burning done or a fire set in accordance with federal or provincial regulations. This ban includes the following:
- Campfires and recreational fires
- Category 2 open fires
- Category 3 open fires
- Fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, tiki torches, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description
- The use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for rifle target practice)
- Air Curtain Burners
This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.
