Campfire Ban

In addition to the open burning ban (category 2 and 3 fires) imposed on May 18, 2023, and as per the Fire Protection Bylaw, Bylaw NO. 3841, campfires/recreational fires will be prohibited effective 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 for the entire Municipality of North Cowichan. This ban includes all burning done or a fire set in accordance with federal or provincial regulations. This ban includes the following:

  • Campfires and recreational fires
  • Category 2 open fires
  • Category 3 open fires
  • Fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, tiki torches, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description
  • The use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for rifle target practice)
  • Air Curtain Burners

This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.
