Category 2 & 3 fires are banned in North Cowichan effective 12pm May 18. Small campfires are still permitted at this time.
Open burning ban goes into effect May 18

As per the Fire Protection Bylaw, Bylaw NO. 3841, an Open Burning Ban will be imposed for the entire Municipality of North Cowichan, effective at noon on May 18, 2023 until October 31, 2023 or further notice. This ban includes all burning done or a fire set in accordance with federal or provincial regulations. This ban also includes the following:
- Category 2 open fires
- Category 3 open fires
- Fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description
- The use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for rifle target practice)
- Air Curtain Burners
This open burning ban does not affect small, recreational fire pits.
