Genoa Bay Road and Slope Stabilization

Category
Status

Timeframe:  2025-2026 (pending council approval)

Budget: $3,000,000

Project led by: North Cowichan

Description:

Genoa Bay Road provides the only road access into Genoa Bay village along challenging mountainous terrain.

Engineering staff have been monitoring the settlement rate over several years, and during the November 2021 rainfall event, cracks in the asphalt appeared to be more significant than usual.

Out of concerns for public safety, and based on the level of deterioration and cracking, the northbound lane was closed, and a water main serving Genoa Bay Village residents was temporarily relocated.

Construction to stabilize the slope and complete road repair will provide two driving lanes, water main replacement, new asphalt, a segmented block wall, and concrete roadside barriers.
