Category 2 Open Burning Ban

As per section 10(2) of the Fire Protection Bylaw, Category 2 Open Burning is banned, consistent with the BC Wildfire Service, effective at noon on Friday, May 18, 2018. This ban will remain in place until further notice to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

The Category 2 ban prohibits:

  • burning of any material (piled or unpiled) smaller than 2 metres high and 3 metres wide;
  • burning of stubble or grass fires over an area less than 2,000 square metres;
  • use of fireworks*, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description; and
  • use of binary exploring targets (e.g. for rifle target practice).

This ban does NOT ban campfires that are smaller than a half-metre high by a half-metre wide, or apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.

*Note: In limited circumstances, fireworks may be approved by the Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner (LAFC).
