North Cowichan, BC – The new accessible washroom facility at Chemainus’ Kin Beach Park is now officially open.
The washroom, which replaces an older building, was funded through the provincial Tourism Dependent Community Fund.
“Kinsman Beach Park is one of the jewels of Chemainus, and this new accessible and year-round washroom building is a tremendous asset to this beloved park,” said Mayor Rob Douglas. “We are very grateful for the funding support from the Province for these significant updates to one of our most visited parks.”
The washroom building involved a complete demolition of the old cinder block building, and includes the addition of power and hot water, as well as accessibility features.
As part of the washroom construction, several other park improvements were completed including an outdoor shower, planting of new trees, a covered picnic shelter, as well as general landscaping and parking area improvements.
The Rotary Club of Chemainus has long supported improvements at Kin Beach Park including the outdoor shower, which is part of the washroom upgrades, as well as funding contributions for boat ramp improvements, and the new covered picnic shelter and picnic table.
Kinsman Beach Park was first opened in 1955, with the Kinsman Club as original caretakers. The park includes a sandy beach, boat launch ramp, picnic area, and washroom.
North Cowichan Mayor, Rob Douglas (second from left), and Councillor Chris Istace (left) celebrate the opening of Kin Beach Park's new washroom facility with Lana Popham, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, and Doug Routley, MLA for Nanaimo-North Cowichan.
