Open burning ban goes into effect May 17

As per the Fire Protection Bylaw, Bylaw NO. 3841, an open burning ban will be imposed for the entire Municipality of North Cowichan, effective at noon on May 17, 2024 until October 31, 2024 or further notice. This ban includes all burning done or a fire set in accordance with federal or provincial regulations. This ban also includes the following:

  • Category 2 open fires
  • Category 3 open fires
  • Fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages of any size or description
  • The use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for rifle target practice)
  • Air Curtain Burners

The current burning ban on Category 2 and 3 open fires does not affect small, recreational fire pits.
