North Cowichan's Forestry Department oversees wildfire protection and mitigation within the 5,000 hectare Municipal Forest Reserve. The Forestry Department and North Cowichan Fire Department prioritize training and response to keep our communities and forests safe.
The Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is an analysis of the municipality's overall wildfire risk. The risk was determined to be moderate to high and is expected to increase in the future with climate change. Implementing the CWPP recommendations over time increase wildfire resilience through a variety of strategies to proactively reduce wildfire risk in North Cowichan.
