Recreation & Parks

“Recreation is the experience that results from freely chosen participation in physical, social, intellectual, creative and spiritual pursuits that enhance individual and community wellbeing.” (Canadian Parks & Recreation Association, 2023)

Recreation has the potential to address challenges and troubling issues such as increases in sedentary living and obesity, decreased contact with nature, and inequities that limit recreation opportunities for some population groups.

North Cowichan Recreation plays an important role in addressing these challenges through the delivery of its year-round programs, services, and events. Not only do these initiatives help enhance the mental, social, and physical wellbeing of its residents, they also help build stronger communities, provide economic benefits, and generate a greater awareness of nature through the many different parks and green spaces that the department maintains.

Through the operations of our three recreation facilities, 77 parks and 187 kilometers of designated trails, our recreation team is proud to deliver year-round accessible recreation programs, services, and events for all ages which include swimming, ice skating, weight training, child & youth services, fitness and more.

Our goal is to provide accessible recreational opportunities for everyone!
