North Cowichan is seeking applications for volunteer positions on its Agricultural Advisory Committee (AgAC).
On May 6, 2026, Council approved a one-year extension of the current AgAC members’ terms into the 2026–2029 Council term, with terms now expiring on November 30, 2027. The extension was intended to maintain continuity throughout the review of the Strategic Agricultural Plan, which began in February 2026 and is anticipated to conclude in fall 2027.
Applications are now being accepted to fill any vacant positions on the Committee and to ensure continued representation from the agricultural community.
Who should volunteer? We are seeking volunteers with experience, expertise, or a strong interest in agriculture, food systems, and food security to join North Cowichan's Agricultural Advisory Committee (AgAC). Committee members should be able to connect with the agricultural community and bring perspectives that help inform Council's decisions on agricultural and food-related matters.
The Committee welcomes applications from individuals involved in, or knowledgeable about, areas such as:
- Agricultural production, processing, and services
- Food security and local food systems
- Agrological science, economics, or ecology
- Agroecology and soil or land regeneration
- Agricultural education, training, and extension
- Agri-tourism
- Place-based food economies
- Urban farming
- Agri-food technology
- First Nations, educational institutions, agricultural organizations, and related sectors
