At the Trans-Canada Hwy exit lane approaching the Sherman Road/Canada Avenue roundabout, single lane alternating traffic pattern will be in effect:

• Thursday, October 8
• Friday, October 9
• Tuesday, October 13
• Wednesday, October 14

This is necessary to accommodate installation of new sanitary main on Canada Avenue in the roundabout.

Traffic control personnel will be on site. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time while work is underway. We appreciate your patience as these upgrades are completed. 

Starting Tuesday, October 7, Stone Pacific Contracting Ltd will begin replacing City of Duncan water mains along Heather St and Chesterfield Ave (see map below). 

During this period, you may experience:

• Single lane alternating traffic,
• Reduced speed zones,
• Road closures and detours, and
• Minor delays

We ask for your patience and cooperation while this essential work is completed. Please follow all posted signage and traffic control personnel instructions to ensure safety for both workers and the public.

Crews will be replacing the cast iron water main on Victoria Street and Mill Street (see map below) as it has reached the end of its expected service life. The work will last approximately three weeks and access to driveways may be limited and/or closed for short periods of time as construction progresses.

During this period, you may experience:

• Increased presence of road crews and equipment
• Single alternating traffic; Flaggers in place as required
• Minor traffic delays

Construction of the Boys Road Pathway Project will take place on the south side of Boys Road. As part of this work, North Cowichan Operations crews will be installing a retaining wall and regrading the southeast corner of the Trans-Canada Highway and Boys Road intersection. Traffic detours may be required at various times throughout the construction period.

Construction is scheduled to occur Tuesday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm. During these working hours, access to Boys Road from the Trans-Canada Highway will be temporarily closed.  Access to Boys Road will remain available via a signed detour route through Thiek Road (see map below).

Access to homes will be maintained at all times.

Starting Monday, July 13, Canada Avenue will be closed to road and pedestrian traffic in both directions between Philip Street and Sherman Road as part of the ongoing infrastructure upgrades in the area. Businesses along Canada Avenue are open and accessible during this closure, using the northbound lane on Canada Avenue between Beverly and Philip Street.

The Sherman Road roundabout will remain open (except for entering onto Canada Avenue), and Canada Avenue between Philip Street and Beverly Street will remain open to northbound traffic only. Road users should allow extra travel time through the detour routes along Philip, Mary, and Islay streets, exercising caution and reduced speeds as they travel though these residential neighbourhoods. 

Local traffic only will be permitted within the closure area, including access to the Cowichan Tribes Public Works and Emergency Services building, during this phase of construction.

The timing of the full closure aligns with the provincial fisheries window, allowing crews to safely replace two critical bridges over Bings Creek while minimizing environmental impacts to the water course and fish habitat.

Under contract with the Municipality of North Cowichan, C-1 Contractors Ltd. are scheduled to begin road construction for the Genoa Bay Road rehabilitation project starting June 30, 2026, to November 2026.

Genoa Bay Village businesses will remain accessible.
