Since 2008, the North Cowichan/Duncan Sports Wall of Fame has been honouring the rich history of sports, coaches, athletes, teams, administrators, and builders from the Cowichan area.
This year, five new inductees are being added to the Sports Wall of Fame:
- 1959 Duncan All Stars (Team - Baseball)
- 1983 Cowichan Thunderettes (Team - Basketball)
- Ernie Mansueti (Builder)
- Helen Gosnell (Athlete - Softball)
- Jason Sandquist (Athlete - Triathlete)
A gala ceremony is scheduled for November 18, 2023, to award the individuals and teams. Inductees will receive a special award, a paver with their name on the Walk of Fame, and a digital biography on the Wall of Fame display.
“We’re excited to keep this tradition moving forward with five more inductees added to our Sports Wall of Fame,” said North Cowichan Mayor Rob Douglas. “The rich history of athletics in North Cowichan and Duncan is inspiring and I’m happy our communities can continue to honour these athletes.”
“These athletes, sport builders, and championship teams will be stellar additions to our Sports Wall of Fame,” said committee chair Councillor Tek Manhas. “We look forward to celebrating them on November 18.”
The Wall of Fame is displayed in the lobby of the Cowichan Aquatic Centre. The new Walk of Fame is located outside the front entrance of the building.
The Sports Wall of Fame is an annual event that has been recognizing greatness in sports since 2008.
