Each year, the Cowichan Aquatic Centre undergoes a three-week maintenance shutdown that involves draining the wave pool, swirl pools, and/or the competition pool to complete annual maintenance updates and repairs, then refilling once work is complete. It also includes other major maintenance jobs (like painting, fixing equipment, deep cleaning) that can only be done when the facility is empty for an extended period of time.
The annual closure gives the opportunity to complete needed repairs and maintenance to extend the life of the equipment and facility while minimizing the need for unexpected closures throughout the year.
2025 maintenance closure
The 2025 closure will take place August 31 through September 21.
Aquatics
During this time, the aquatic side of the facility will be fully closed, including all changerooms.
Fitness
The fitness centre will be partially open during this period:
- fully closed August 31 - September 7
- reopens September 8 with modified hours: Monday - Friday 6am - 6pm
- the changerooms will not be accessible during this timeframe
- the fitness center washrooms (2) will be available to public
