(North Cowichan, BC) – North Cowichan residents have the opportunity to elect one new councillor in the by-election taking place on Saturday, April 12. The by-election will fill the council seat that was vacated by Debra Toporowski last fall.
“We encourage all eligible electors to participate and have their say in shaping the future of their community,” said Chief Election Officer, Tricia Mayea. “This by-election isn’t just about an empty seat, it’s about your say in local issues that impact everyday life; from roads and sidewalks to land-use decisions, parks and recreation, essential services, and more. We’ve made voting easy and accessible for you, with advance polls, multiple voting locations on general voting day, and mail-in ballot options available.”
General voting day is Saturday, April 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and North Cowichan residents can vote at any of the following locations:
- Municipal Hall, 7030 Trans-Canada Highway, North Cowichan
- Chemainus Fire Hall, 9901 Chemainus Road, Chemainus
- Crofton Fire Hall, 1681 Robert Street, Crofton
- Maple Bay Fire Hall, 1230 Maple Bay Road, North Cowichan
- Cowichan Community Centre – Multi-Purpose Hall, 2687 James Street, North Cowichan
Two advance voting dates are also being offered: Wednesday, April 2 and Tuesday, April 8 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Municipal Hall location only.
Eligible voters include residents of North Cowichan and non-resident property owners aged 18 and over. Eligible voters who are not on North Cowichan’s register of electors can register when they go to vote at any of the polling locations. Voters cards will not be mailed out, and they are not required to cast a ballot.
