Public Notice

What is a statutory public notice? A statutory public notice is different than a news release. News releases are commonly published for issues or events that are of significance and are of general interest to the community, such as temporary road closures due to construction or watermain repairs, watering restrictions, or closure of the Cowichan Aquatic Centre for annual maintenance.

Under Provincial legislation, North Cowichan is required to issue a statutory public notice for various activities such as public hearings, land dispositions, partnering agreements, elections, and review of the Municipality's annual report. For some land related notices, there is also a requirement to notify neighbouring properties by letter which North Cowichan will continue to do in accordance with Public Notice Bylaw 3906 (PDF).
