UPDATE, AUG 24, 4:36PM: The fire is now reported as BEING HELD.
BC Wildfire Service is responding to a wildfire outside of North Cowichan's jurisdiction west of the Chemainus River valley. Smoke is visible from the highway.
At this time the fire is reported as being 0.009 hectares in size and listed as out of control. North Cowichan Fire Department is aware of the fire and are ready to support if needed.
