Description

The Boys Road trunk main is a main artery in North Cowichan's south end water system, transporting water from the wells and pump station/treatment station on Boys Road. The trunk main has reached the end of its useful life and needs replacement. The existing 600mm prestressed concrete cylinder pipe has a tendency to fail and it will be upgraded to a 900mm pipe that will meet future capacity needs and be more seismically resilient. Approximately 1km of trunk main will be replaced, and work involves crossing the Cowichan River.

What you need to know

This is a critical infrastructure replacement project as the trunk main is the primary (and only water source) for the South End of North Cowichan and parts of Crofton, servicing approximately 22,000 residents. There will be some impact on the dikes, river crossing, City of Duncan public works yard, and laneways to the north and south. Some short-term traffic interruptions are expected, but no service interruptions to the delivery of the potable water supply is expected. Additional details will be provided here closer to the start of construction.
