North Cowichan and the Cowichan Aquatic Centre invite community members to share feedback in a follow up survey about swim lessons and pool access. The survey explores potential changes to registration processes, lesson scheduling and availability, and pool space allocation.
“Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences in the first swim lesson survey,” said Nathan Jesse, Manager of Recreation. “We heard clearly that swimming lessons are highly valued, but there are challenges around registration, scheduling, and access. In this follow up survey, we’re asking the community to help shape practical solutions that will improve fairness, access, and overall user experience.”
Feedback from the first survey identified key pressure points, including high demand for lessons, challenges navigating registration, and varying needs for lesson times and formats. This second phase focuses on exploring potential options and gathering input on how these changes may impact families and individuals who participate in aquatic programming.
“This survey is not just for parents of swim lesson participants. We want to hear from everybody – current patrons of the aquatic centre and more,” added Nathan Jesse.
The Cowichan Aquatic Centre offers Lifesaving Society Swim for Life lessons for children and adults age zero to 99. In 2025, 2,586 people participated in 431 swim classes.
Insights from both surveys will support future planning and help ensure North Cowichan’s aquatic programs continue to evolve in ways that meet the needs of local residents. Visit ConnectNorthCowichan.ca/swim-survey to take the survey, stay informed, and learn about the project’s next steps.
