Canada Avenue 

  • Tentative construction: Spring to Fall 2026 (Pending Council approval).
  • Roads: Canada Avenue between Sherman Rd and Beverly St. 
  • Coordinated concurrent activity with the City of Duncan on their portion of Canada Avenue.
  • Federal Active Transportation Grant Co-Funding: This project has secured 60% grant funding on eligible active transportation components.  

What to expect

Final stages of design underway.

The work includes:

  • Replacement of two bridges over Somenos Creek.
  • New concrete box culvert structures.
  • Road realignment to reduce impact on adjacent environmentally-sensitive fish bearing Somenos Creek.
  • Active transportation improvements including sidewalk upgrades, paved multi-use trail, and improved road crossings. 
  • Construction of a missing link in the Friendship Trail for improved connectivity.
  • Extending multi-use pathway (MUP) for pedestrians and cyclists surrounding the Sherman Road roundabout. 
  • Paving and other upgrades to Friendship Trail from Beverly Street to the Canada Avenue/First Street intersection. 
  • Speed management features including narrowed driving lanes and speed limit change to 40 km/h.
  • Replacement and rehabilitation of sanitary sewers and replacement of a City of Duncan-owned water main.
  • Drainage improvements.
