Canada Avenue
- Tentative construction: Spring to Fall 2026 (Pending Council approval).
- Roads: Canada Avenue between Sherman Rd and Beverly St.
- Coordinated concurrent activity with the City of Duncan on their portion of Canada Avenue.
- Federal Active Transportation Grant Co-Funding: This project has secured 60% grant funding on eligible active transportation components.
What to expect
Final stages of design underway.
The work includes:
- Replacement of two bridges over Somenos Creek.
- New concrete box culvert structures.
- Road realignment to reduce impact on adjacent environmentally-sensitive fish bearing Somenos Creek.
- Active transportation improvements including sidewalk upgrades, paved multi-use trail, and improved road crossings.
- Construction of a missing link in the Friendship Trail for improved connectivity.
- Extending multi-use pathway (MUP) for pedestrians and cyclists surrounding the Sherman Road roundabout.
- Paving and other upgrades to Friendship Trail from Beverly Street to the Canada Avenue/First Street intersection.
- Speed management features including narrowed driving lanes and speed limit change to 40 km/h.
- Replacement and rehabilitation of sanitary sewers and replacement of a City of Duncan-owned water main.
- Drainage improvements.
