Value: $155,000

Description:

  • Work is beginning on the second phase of repairs to the storm culvert at the intersection of Adelaide Street and Northview Drive.
  • This culvert plays a key role in managing water from the creek, which experiences heavy flow during the winter months.
  • The culvert has been deteriorating rapidly due to significant corrosion, perforation, and dislodged pipe joints.
  • With the culvert failing rapidly, urgent repairs are needed before the wet season.
  • The repair work will focus on the existing 1,200 mm corrugated metal pipe. Crews will reinforce the bottom of the culvert using poured concrete and steel mesh, which is expected to extend the pipe’s lifespan by 15 to 20 years.
  • This solution is intended to hold until capital funding becomes available for options such as relining the pipe or fully replacing it through excavation.
  • Given the proximity to a sensitive creek environment, all necessary environmental notifications and monitoring processes are in place.
  • This phase of work completes the initial repairs carried out in the fall of 2022. That earlier work involved removing the deteriorated metal flume from the outfall and replacing it with rock armouring to stabilize the slope and protect the road infrastructure above.
