North Cowichan seeking community input on swim lesson access and experience

North Cowichan and the Cowichan Aquatic Centre are inviting local families to share their experiences with swimming lessons through a new community survey. Feedback collected will help identify barriers to participation and guide improvements to both programming and the registration process.

“Swimming lessons are a vital life skill, and we want every family in our community to feel confident accessing them,” said Nathan Jesse, Manager of Recreation. “We know that demand is high and experiences vary. By listening to families directly, we can better understand where the system is working well and where changes are needed to make swimming lessons more accessible, enjoyable, and effective for everyone.”

Insights from the survey will support future planning and help ensure North Cowichan’s aquatic programs continue to evolve in ways that meet the needs of local residents.

Community members are encouraged to take a few minutes to complete the survey and share their experiences about registration timing, scheduling, access to technology, and more.

The Cowichan Aquatic Centre offers Lifesaving Society Swim for Life lessons for children and adults age zero to 99. In 2025, 2,586 people participated in 431 swim classes.
