Short-term rentals in North Cowichan are managed through a combination of Provincial legislation and municipal bylaw.
A short-term rental is defined as any rental of a legal dwelling unit or portion of a dwelling unit (such as a bedroom) for less than 90 consecutive days.
All short-term rentals operating in North Cowichan must:
- Be registered with the province through the STR portal;
- Be within all or part of the operator’s primary residence;
- Have a valid North Cowichan business licence (for short-term rental); and,
- Include a floor plan of the residence
A business licence is $100 per year, payable once your application is approved and a licence issued ($50 if after July 1). Once your application is approved, the annual fee is $100 (before February 28).
